Introduction
The NEET Cut Off marks for 2023 were released by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on June 13, 2023, simultaneously with the NEET result announcement. These cutoff marks denote the minimum scores required for qualification in the NEET exam. They play a crucial role as only candidates meeting the NEET cutoff criteria can participate in the counselling processes at national and state levels. The NEET Cut Off for 2023 saw an increase compared to the previous year, primarily due to the exam’s relatively lower difficulty level and a higher number of candidates.
NTA releases the NEET cutoff marks annually, also known as qualifying marks or pass marks, for various medical courses like MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, and others across different states in India. The qualifying percentile set by NTA remains constant, but the actual cutoff marks can vary each year based on factors like exam difficulty and candidate numbers. The NEET cutoff for MBBS government colleges tends to be higher compared to other courses and colleges.
For NEET 2023, successful candidates secured admission to various medical courses, including 1,01,043 MBBS seats, 52,720 AYUSH seats, and 27,948 BDS seats, among others.
This year, NEET 2024 exam results has been released on 4th June 2024. NTA has released the NEET cutoff 2024 along with the result. NEET 2024 scores will also be utilized for admissions to AIIMS and JIPMER institutes. The NEET cutoff for MBBS government colleges, NEET category-wise cutoff, NEET cutoff for SC/ST candidates, and the NEET Tie-breaking Policy are essential aspects to consider during the admission process.

What is the Tie-breaking Protocol in NEET Result 2024?
In the NEET UG examination, tie-break situations can arise when two or more candidates achieve the same marks. To address this, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has a structured tie-breaking protocol in place to determine the merit list rankings. This protocol undergoes periodic revisions, with the latest changes applicable for NEET 2024.
NEET 2024 Tie-breaking Criteria
- Higher Marks in Biology (Botany & Zoology): The candidate with a higher score in Biology secures a better ranking.
- Higher Marks in Chemistry: Following Biology, Chemistry marks are considered for ranking purposes.
- Higher Marks in Physics: Physics marks serve as the third criterion in breaking ties.
- Proportion of Correct and Incorrect Answers: Candidates with a lower ratio of incorrect to correct answers across all subjects get preference.
- Proportion in Biology: In case of further ties, the ratio of incorrect to correct answers specifically in Biology is considered.
- Proportion in Chemistry: Similarly, the ratio in Chemistry is examined for tie-breaking.
- Proportion in Physics: Finally, the ratio in Physics is reviewed to finalize rankings.
Evolution of Tie-breaking Criteria
- In NEET 2024, the criteria were briefly changed to include a computerized draw of lots, but this was reverted to the original merit-based approach.
- Notably, previous criteria like age and application number are no longer part of the tie-breaking process, streamlining the evaluation based on academic performance.
The NEET tie-breaking protocol for 2024 emphasizes academic merit, focusing on subject-specific scores and accuracy ratios. This transparent and structured approach ensures fairness in determining rankings among candidates with similar marks, aligning with NTA’s commitment to impartial evaluation.
