Age Limit Criteria
- General Category and General EWS Category: Applicants must be born on or after July 1, 2003, to qualify.
- Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST): The age limit for these categories is set at being born on or after July 1, 2000.
- PwD Reserved Category: Candidates falling under the Persons with Disabilities (PwD) Reserved Category must have a birth date on or after July 1, 1998.
- Foreign Nationals (Overseas Category): For international candidates, the eligibility age is the same as for the General Category, i.e., born on or after July 1, 2003.
Educational Qualification Criteria
- Applicants should have passed or be appearing for the higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations during the academic year 2023–24.
- Acceptable educational backgrounds include Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities, or any equivalent streams.
- Recognized boards include CBSE, IB, ICSE, and others listed by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
- Equivalents to the 10+2 system include various national and international exams and certifications, such as A-levels, National Institute of Open Schooling exams, and AICTE-approved diplomas.
- Candidates completing their class XII exams outside India or from unrecognized boards must obtain an equivalence certificate from the AIU to validate their qualification’s equivalence to Indian standards.

NID Exam Eligibility Criteria for Overseas Candidates

Besides the regular seats for the B.Des. Programme, an extra 15% of supernumerary seats are allocated for Overseas category applicants. The number of available seats in the Overseas (supernumerary) category is determined by the institution.
